Identification of Required Skills and Capability within the Supply Chain

Hunterston A uses the local and national supply chain to support specialist training including Emergency response management Management. We will continue to positively engage with our supply chain to ensure the adequate skills are available to Hunterston A for its remaining lifetime. This will be further achieved through partnership working with the local trade unions, local colleges and universities.

Identification of Appropriate Supply Chain Strategy to Ensure Long Term Availability of Skills

Hunterston’s supply chain strategy takes into account the socio-economic benefits of skill retention in the industry. Some identified areas where supply chain resource will be used for the future are for example radiation monitors and site engineers. Recognised suppliers of suitably qualified and experienced personnel are in place.

Supply Source Selection Drive by Best Value Solutions

The site will in all instances seek to deliver maximum value from its contracting relationships by selecting the most appropriate supply chain solution for all externally supplied goods and services. It will at all times adhere to the Procurement Philosophy (as detailed below) and follow a disciplined approach to supply source selection.

This approach will include, where necessary, clear make/buy considerations (following the process described later in this document). It will also promote the need to challenge existing methodologies and encourage innovation from the supply chain in order to drive best value for the customer. In addition this process will ensure that the site is cognisant of the socio-economic effects on the local community of any supply selection decision that it makes and communicate such decisions effectively to all stake holders. To this aim the site will ensure that it engages suitably qualified members of the local supply chain in all applicable procurement activities, without prejudicing the requirements of the EU procurement directives.

In order to maximise purchasing leverage, where appropriate, the site will seek to “go to market” in cooperation with other sites within the Magnox portfolio or with other Magnox Electric Ltd operations if it is believed optimal cost solutions may be realised by adopting such an approach.
